Walnut Street
Center Inc.'s Social Service Supports provide a wide variety of flexible
supports to individuals with disabilities and their families. The goal
of each endeavor is to empower the individual to become more self- sufficient
and active in the decisions that effect his or her life.
Our Individual Support Program provides services to individuals who
live independently. We offer assistance in nearly every aspect of home
management and community living.
Our Family Support Program assists families with a disabled adult son
or daughter living at home.
Currently, we are able to provide direct clinical supports through
individual and family counseling, often in the home. We also run a number
of therapeutic groups focusing on issues such as sexuality, health and
nutrition, communication, stress management and conflict resolution.
Additionally, department staff also offers behavioral and nursing consultations.
Some other supports we may provide include assistance with transportation,
entitlements, medical and psychiatric treatment, housing, landlord relations,
managing additional support workers and budgeting in addition to other
areas prioritized by the people we support.
The social service department also offers stipends to designated families
through our Family Support program. This has been an effective tool
for obtaining the goods and services that improve a family's quality
of life and ensure that the family members with disabilities receive
the supports they need and want.
