How You Can Help

How Do I Make A Gift?
Checks should be made out to:
Walnut Street Center, Inc.
Mailing Address:

"Attn: Donations"
35 Charlestown St.
Somerville, MA 02143

All other donations should be made by contacting Adam Brilla at brillaa@wscinc.org, (617) 629-3571.

Walnut Street Center, Inc. (WSC) is seeking donations to support some of the agency's most needed programs. These programs provide support services to over two hundred adults with developmental disabilities and their families. Many of these people have received committed support from WSC's dedicated staff for over thirty years. There is currently a need for support of this agency's programs as all of the services that WSC provides are funded by the state and are subject to budget limitations. WSC is also opening new and innovative programs to meet the growing need of additional services for developmentally disabled adults in the community. There is often very little funding available for these new programs.

WSC greatly appreciates your willingness to consider helping adults with developmental disabilities. All potential Givers should know that:

  • Donations are tax deductible
WSC accepts checks and credit card donations
  • WSC accepts securities, goods and services donations
  • WSC accepts Homes and real estate as donations
  • WSC accepts bequeathed legacy donations
  • WSC accepts memorial gifts.
  • One hundred percent of all donations will be spent to support WSC and the programs listed below.
  • WSC allows people to choose which WSC programs they would like to make gift

The Walnut Street Funds
Walnut Street Center General Fund
This fund provides support to many of the agency's services and also helps defray the ever- increasing operating costs to run its residential, day, employment, respite, family and individual support services.

Alzheimer's Residential and Day Support Services Fund
Gifts made to this fund will help to provide support services to adults who have both a developmental disability and Alzheimer's disease. Recent studies have confirmed that 100% of adults who have Down syndrome will develop Alzheimer's disease at some point in their senior years. Once these individuals develop Alzheimer's disease they require specialized care.
The Walnut Street Center, Inc. has opened the Wylie Residential complex in order to provide home to a number of developmentally disabled adults who have also developed Alzheimer's disease. In addition, we have opened a new day program with in the complex in order to meet the specialized needs of its residents.

IT'S A GIFT! Store/Work Training Program Fund
Located at 29 A Union Square

The Walnut Street Center, Inc. assists developmentally disabled individuals to obtain competitive employment in their community. We have developed an innovative community- based training support that teaches competitive job skills through an arts and crafts/ florist business operated by the individuals and the agency. The IT"S A GIFT store sells flowers and arts and crafts items produced by people who have developmental disabilities. Workers in the store/work training program receive training in sales, floral design, janitorial work, delivery services, arts and crafts, production and cash register skills. All gifts made to this fund will support this project.

Walnut Street Center Vacation Fund
We have established a vacation fund to supplement the cost of vacations for developmentally disabled adults who receive supports from our agency. Many of these adults could not afford to go on vacation without assistance from this fund. All financial gifts will be utilized to supplement the cost of theses vacations.

Respite Program Fund
The Walnut Street Center's Respite facility provides invaluable support to many families. A majority of families utilize this facility to provide short- term, temporary relief from their care- taking responsibilities of a developmentally disabled relative who is living at home. Respite Supports offers planned day, overnight visits as well as weekend and extended stays. This support is also used in emergency situations where a crisis occurs in a family and they need immediate, unplanned, and temporary respite for their developmentally disabled relative. Gifts made to this program will be used for the maintenance of the support and facility.

Access to Technology Fund
The Walnut Street Center is seeking funds to purchase computers. We also accept gifts of new and used computers. The donation of computers will have a significant impact on the supports that receive them. Developmentally disabled adults will have a valuable link to educational software, friends, family, and their community. Staff will also posses a tool that will improve the services they provide.
