Facilitating Community Integration and social inclusion is another essential
role of the Social Services department.
We organize numerous recreational and social events including classes,
dances and special trips. In addition to regularly scheduled trips to
theaters and restaurants, we have offered cooking classes, a gardening
group, an integrated fundraising basketball tournament, and a community
nutrition and walking group.
Community Integration participants work hard each year to produce wreaths
for an annual fundraiser benefiting the Somerville Community Garden.
The Community Integration specialists also work to identify opportunities
for individuals to pursue their interests through civic, social, religious,
sporting, and hobby oriented clubs and organizations within the community
at large.
